Arne Slot says ‘no reasons to not want Mohamed Salah to stay’
LONDON: Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said that there are ‘no reasons to not want Mohamed Salah to stay’ after the Egyptian forward’s explosive comments against the club.
Liverpool star Salah has expressed frustration over his recent treatment at the club, saying he feels ‘thrown under the bus’. Subsequently, he was left out of the Liverpool squad for the Champions League match against Inter Milan.
Salah’s comments came after he sat on the bench as an unused substitute in two of Liverpool’s last three Premier League matches. After a 3-3 draw with Leeds United, marking his third consecutive game on the bench, the 33-year-old spoke with journalists about his frustration, saying he had been thrown under the bus. “I have done so much for this club over the years, especially last season. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. Someone wants me to get all the blame!” Salah said. When Slot was asked about Salah’s future, who penned a new two-year contract in April, Liverpool’s manager said: “I have no reasons to not want him to stay. I will have a conversation with Mo.” “The outcome of that conversation determines how things will look [on Saturday].”
Liverpool will take on Brighton at Anfield on Saturday as they are aiming to bounce back from successive draws in the league. Last time Mohamed Salah was on the pitch against Sunderland in a 1-1 draw on December 3, when he came on as a substitute, and he last started the game against PSV Eindhoven in a defeat on November 26 in the Champions League. Salah has scored 250 goals in 420 appearances for Liverpool and became the first Premier League player to finish a season with the most goals (29) and assists (18) while earning the Player of the Year award last season.
