Committee to propose steps for fighting terror, enforcing state’s writ

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday formed a 22-member high-level committee, headed by Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, to suggest more measures to combat terrorism and enforce the state’s writ and submit its report to him within 15 days.

Sources said that Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar and Federal Minister for Information Ataullah Tarar were among the members of the committee, which would review the strategic points that came under discussion at a meeting held on July 31, 2025, which was presided over by the prime minister and was also attended by Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Sources informed that other members of the committee were Adviser to PM Rana Sanaullah, State Minister for Interior, secretary interior, chief secretaries of the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, IGPs of the four provinces, Islamabad, AJK and GB.

Similarly, representatives of security institutions and chief commissioner Islamabad were also members of the committee, sources explained.

The committee will look into the matters concerning contacts between the Center and federating units in important sectors.

The committee will give suggestions regarding the security of the foreigners living in the country and the establishment of Safe Cities.

It will point out the areas where the provinces need technical assistance from the federal government so that joint steps could be taken to achieve the desired results.

The committee will suggest ways and means through which coordination between security institutions could be strengthened and collaboration between different institutions could be improved.
