Dar discusses Gaza crisis with Egyptian, Azerbaijani foreign ministers

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday held separate telephone conversations with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

During the telephonic conversation, the leaders discussed the ceasefire implementation, focusing on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza and the broader efforts to restore peace in the Middle East.

According to the Foreign Office, Dar and Dr. Abdelatty exchanged views on the latest developments in Gaza and Palestine, reiterating the need for urgent international action to end the violence and ensure unimpeded humanitarian access. The two sides also discussed regional diplomatic initiatives and coordination ahead of the forthcoming summit scheduled to take place in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday, which is expected to bring together Arab and Islamic leaders to deliberate on collective steps for de-escalation and humanitarian relief.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister briefed Dar on Cairo’s ongoing mediation efforts to facilitate a ceasefire and the delivery of aid through the Rafah crossing, which remains the principal route for humanitarian assistance to the besieged population of Gaza. Dar appreciated Egypt’s leading role in regional diplomacy and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that the international community must act decisively to halt Israeli aggression and uphold international humanitarian law.

In his conversation with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, the Deputy Prime Minister discussed the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the need for coordinated efforts by Arab and Islamic countries to promote peace and stability in the region. Both sides underscored the importance of unity among Muslim nations and the activation of multilateral platforms such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to press for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian relief for the Palestinian people.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s consistent stance in support of a two-state solution, with the establishment of an independent, viable, and contiguous State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. The discussions come amid growing international concern over the escalating civilian toll in Gaza, where weeks of Israeli bombardment have left thousands dead and displaced, sparking protests and diplomatic efforts across the Muslim world. Pakistan has maintained active engagement with regional partners, including Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, to forge a unified diplomatic response aimed at ending hostilities and securing lasting peace in the region.
