PM reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with Iran for regional peace
KHANKANDI: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with the newly elected President of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, on the sidelines of the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in Khankendi.
According to an official statement from the Press Information Department Friday, the two leaders reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation and expressed satisfaction over the progress made on decisions taken during their last interaction.
In a significant diplomatic exchange, both leaders discussed the evolving regional situation in the wake of “Israel’s illegitimate aggression against Iran,” with Prime Minister Shehbaz appreciating “President Pezeshkian’s leadership” and commending “Iran’s decision to reach a ceasefire during the recent crisis.”
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, Prime Minister Shehbaz stated Pakistan’s “unwavering solidarity with the people and Government of Iran” and reiterated “Pakistan’s strong commitment to continue working closely with Iran for peace in the region through dialogue and diplomacy.”
President Pezeshkian, for his part, acknowledged “Pakistan’s strong diplomatic support to Iran, including at the international forums,” and thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz for “Pakistan’s vital role in de-escalating the conflict.”
The Prime Minister also requested President Pezeshkian to convey his “warm greetings and good wishes” to His Eminence the Supreme Leader of Iran.
The meeting marks the first high-level interaction between Pakistan and Iran since President Pezeshkian assumed office, highlighting both nations’ shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and promoting peace in the region. NNI
