Wheat harvesting starts in Faisalabad amid weather concerns

FAISALABAD: Wheat harvesting has commenced in Faisalabad and its surrounding areas, as farmers remain actively engaged in reaping their crops despite recent weather-related concerns but they are still optimistic that wheat production would meet their overall expectations.

Golden wheat fields are swaying across the region, presenting a vibrant scene as the peasants work day

and night to gather the yield of months-long hard work.

The harvesting season marks a crucial moment for growers who wait the entire year to see the fruits of their labor materialize.

However, this year’s harvest has arrived under a shadow of uncertainty as recent rains and hailstorms in different parts of Punjab including Faisalabad raised concerns among farmers regarding potential losses in both quantity and quality of the crop.

Farmers from Chak No. 28-GB shared mixed sentiments, saying that although some standing crops were affected, yet their determination remains strong.

“We have worked tirelessly day and night, facing all weather conditions and left no stone unturned in caring for our crops”, said a farmer Akram Ali, adding that they still hope for better yields with the blessings of Allah Almighty.

Another grower Zulfiqar Gujjar from the same area said that although hailstorms had damaged crops in patches, yet the overall situation was manageable. “Our faith is strong and we believe that our hard labor will not go in vain”, he remarked.

The combine harvesters in fields alongside traditional harvesting methods reflect a blend of modern and conventional agricultural practices.

The agricultural experts believe that a rise in temperature is expected in the coming days, which may help accelerate the harvesting process. However, they have advised the farmers to adopt precautionary measures to safeguard their produce, a spokesman of agriculture (extension) department said.

Despite partial damage caused by recent rains and hailstorms in some areas, the experts maintained that overall wheat production is likely to remain satisfactory if weather conditions stay favorable, he added.

Wheat continues to hold vital importance for Pakistan’s economy and food security, serving as a backbone for the agricultural sector and a key source of livelihood for the farmers.

The ongoing harvesting season in Faisalabad reflects not only hard work and resilience of farmers but also a sense of cautious optimism, as growers are hopeful that their hard labor coupled with divine blessings would yield positive results and contribute to stability and prosperity of the country, agriculture spokesman added.
