Malaysian HC hosts Networking Hi-Tea to foster closer bilateral ties with Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: The High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad hosted a Networking Hi-Tea, bringing together prominent Pakistani stakeholders and Friends of Malaysia. The event aimed to expand the High Commission’s network and foster closer ties between Malaysia and Pakistan, focusing on trade, investment, and business collaboration.
High Commissioner Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan emphasized the strong bond between the two countries, highlighting key achievements from the recent state visit of Malaysia’s Prime Minister to Pakistan. The visit led to agreements boosting trade, investment, and cultural exchange, including increased direct flights between Karachi and Kuala Lumpur starting December 2024.
Mazlan praised Pakistan’s beauty, resilience, and warm people, expressing Malaysia’s gratitude for the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora to Malaysia’s development. With over 200,000 Pakistanis living in Malaysia, their role in strengthening ties and fostering goodwill is invaluable.
The High Commissioner also highlighted the immense potential for further collaboration, particularly in agriculture, the halal industry, and technology. Malaysia’s expertise in the halal sector was offered to help Pakistan become a regional hub, leveraging its agricultural strengths.
Additionally, Mazlan invited Pakistani investors to explore opportunities in Malaysia, especially with the country preparing to chair ASEAN in 2025. The event provided a platform for guests to network and explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations.
The Malaysian High Commission remains committed to facilitating cooperation that benefits both nations and builds a foundation for long-term partnership. This commitment is reflected in the growing trade volume between the two countries, which reached USD 1.4 billion in 2023.
Malaysia and Pakistan have a long history of diplomatic relations, established in 1957. The two countries have cooperated in various fields, including trade, investment, and defense. The Malaysia-Pakistan Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA) was signed in 2008 to strengthen economic ties.
In recent years, Malaysia and Pakistan have enhanced their cooperation in defense and security. The two countries have held joint military exercises and cooperated in counter-terrorism efforts. PR
