UAF inks MoU with NRSP, AZC to transform 1,000 Kanals land into a high-tech hub

FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) and A~Z Agri CORP Private Limited (AZC) to transform over 1,000 Kanals land into a high-tech hub for modern agriculture in Hafizabad.

UAF spokesman said here on Saturday that the collaboration aims to develop integrated teaching, commercial and seed multiplication farms at UAF’s Hafizabad locations including Pindi Bowra, Ram Tarar, and Gujranwali.

This initiative is designed as a scalable model to modernize Pakistani agriculture through the adoption of climate-smart practices and precision technology, he added.

He said that the agreement was signed by Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali Vice Chancellor of UAF; Dr Rashid Bajwa CEO of NRSP and Ahsan Bajwa Managing Director of A~Z Agri CORP whereas UAF Director Farm Dr. Muhammad Aslam; Director External Linkage Dr Muhammad Tehsin Azhar; Ibrar Anjum, the CEO, NRSP-APCL and others also attended the ceremony.

He said that the collaboration is meant to develop high-performance teaching and demonstration farms; enhance productivity of wheat and paddy through modern techniques; introducing other viable crops as part of crop rotation in the region; establish seed development and multiplication systems; create a structured field-based training ecosystem for students and local young farmers and promote adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices.

He said that this partnership leverages the unique strengths of each organization to create a holistic farming ecosystem and UAF would lead research, protocol development and technical functions. Faculty and students would participate in a structured “on-field” to gain hands-on experience in crop planning and input optimization, he added.

He said that AZC would manage day-to-day field execution, deploying modern mechanization and precision irrigation to optimize yields for essential crops like wheat.

NRSP would mobilize smallholder farmers, providing them with training, post-harvest management demonstrations and vital market linkages through their established warehousing facilities, he added. Staff Report
