Israel kills 254 Lebanese in  ceasefire violation

BEIRUT: Israel has bombed locations across Lebanon, including the capital Beirut, in devastating attacks that authorities say has killed at least 254 people and wounded over 1,165.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier said that Lebanon would not be included in the ceasefire.

Qatar has condemned “the brutal series of Israeli airstrikes that targeted vast areas in Lebanon” today that have killed at least 254 people and wounded 1,165.

A statement from Qatar’s Foreign Ministry added that it considered the attacks “a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the sister Lebanese Republic, the rules of international humanitarian law, and United Nations Security Council Resolution (1701)”.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by compelling the Israeli occupation authorities to halt their barbaric massacres and repeated attacks on Lebanon, and to hold them accountable for respecting international covenants and laws.”

In a statement issued by Gaza’s Government Media Office, the killing of Al Jazeera correspondent Mohammed Wishah brings the number of journalists killed since Israel began its war on Gaza to 262.

In a statement, Gaza’s Government Media Office condemned the killing and “systematic targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation”.

“We hold the Israeli occupation, the United States administration, and countries complicit in the crime of genocide, such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, fully responsible for committing these heinous and brutal crimes,” it said.

The Israeli attack targeted a vehicle with Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent Mohammed Wishah inside.

He was targeted and brutally killed while he was driving on the main road in Gaza City.

With Wishah’s killing, the number of Palestinian journalists killed by Israel since the start of the war in October 2023 has risen to 262.

The situation is getting much more dire in Gaza City in light of the ongoing Israeli military’s “ceasefire” violations.

It’s nearly six months since the US-brokered “ceasefire” came into effect, and the Israeli violations continue – targeting journalists like Wishah, who has been covering the genocidal war since day one.

The Gaza Government Media Office says the Israeli military committed around 2,000 violations since the “ceasefire” took effect here. Monitoring Desk
