Leghari lauds NGC’s indigenization policy as catalyst for economic stability
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Division, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari on Wednesday hailed the National Grid Company’s (NGC) Indigenization Policy as a transformative success, citing contracts worth PKR 12.673 billion awarded to Pakistani industries and savings of approximately 40% on transmission line conductors compared to imported alternatives.
In a statement, the minister emphasized that these tangible outcomes reflect government’s commitment to structural reforms that prioritize local manufacturing, reduce dependence on imports, and deliver measurable economic benefits.
The policy empowers local manufacturers through educational orders, joint ventures with international partners, and the establishment of local subsidiaries. Under the Minister’s stewardship, these efforts have resulted in nine educational orders valued at PKR 900 million and the registration of 11 local firms for capability development, strengthening Pakistan’s industrial base.
The minister underscored that the policy’s impact extends beyond cost savings, contributing significantly to macroeconomic stability through foreign exchange conservation. He noted that timely delivery of materials from local manufacturers was enabling early project completion, accelerating critical transmission infrastructure development across the country.
Looking ahead, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari positioned indigenization as a cornerstone for export-led growth, particularly in the steel, cable, and conductor sectors where local capability has expanded considerably.
He reaffirmed that the Power Division would continue championing such initiatives to foster industrial self-reliance and long-term economic resilience. APP
