Attack on DI Khan police station, customs camp leaves two martyred, three injured

Bomb with 40kg explosives defused on Lakki highway

DERA ISMAIL KHAN/LAKKI MARWAT: At least two officials were martyred and three others injured after terrorists attacked a police station and a nearby customs camp in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan.

According to a police spokesperson on Wednesday, an unknown number of unidentified armed men suddenly attacked the Yark Police Station, resulting in the martyrdom of Constable Bilal at the scene.

Two other officers, Constables Umar Ali and Khayal Muhammad, were injured and were immediately transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The spokesperson said that during the same incident, terrorists also targeted a customs camp located near the police station. Customs official Israr Ahmed was martyred in the attack, while another official, Muhammad Noman, was injured. There are also reports of one customs official, Zubair, being missing.

Additionally, the terrorists destroyed two government vehicles.

Following the attack, a large contingent of police and security forces reached the site, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation. Authorities said the hunt for the attackers is ongoing and further investigations are underway.

Security alert in the area has been raised to high.

Meanwhile, Police in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district and the Bomb Disposal Squad on Wednesday successfully deactivated a remote-controlled bomb containing 40kg of explosives that had been planted on the Lakki–Mianwali Highway, officials said.

The operation began after District Police Officer Nazeer Khan received information about the device. City police immediately cordoned off the area, which houses schools and the Sarhad Institute of Education and Research.

The Bomb Disposal Squad later defused the locally made improvised explosive device, which had been placed inside a barrel and contained more than 40kg of explosive material. Officials said two detonators, 12-volt batteries and an electronic circuit were also recovered.

Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed congratulated Lakki Marwat police and the bomb squad for the operation, calling the officers “real heroes” who risked their lives to save innocent people.

He also urged citizens to help identify hidden elements in their communities, saying the sole aim of terrorists is to spread fear and chaos. Staff Report
