2.4m SIMs issued to BISP beneficiaries for wallet-based payments

ISLAMABAD: As many as 2.4 million free SIM cards have so far been distributed to beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) across Punjab to facilitate the disbursement of financial assistance through digital wallet accounts, ensuring secure, convenient and timely access to payments, Associated Press of Pakistan reported on Sunday.

It was stated by BISP Director General Punjab Haider Murtaza while speaking to media representatives during his visit to the SIM Distribution Centres in Muzaffargarh, where he reviewed the ongoing distribution process for registered beneficiaries.

During the visit, the director general inspected operational arrangements, beneficiary facilitation measures and overall service delivery at the centres. He interacted with women beneficiaries, listened to their concerns and closely observed the process to ensure that assistance was being provided in a smooth, efficient and respectful manner.

Haider Murtaza also reviewed the Digital Financial Literacy Training being provided at the centres and said that the initiative aims to equip beneficiaries with the knowledge required for the proper use of SIM cards and wallet accounts.

He explained that wallet accounts are being opened on these SIMs and that, in the future, all BISP payments will be disbursed exclusively through these digital wallets, enhancing transparency and promoting financial inclusion.

He added that the initiative would play a vital role in empowering women and strengthening their economic independence. APP
