Mirwaiz put under house arrest, barred from Friday prayers
SRINAGAR: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), authorities placed senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house arrest, preventing him from attending congregational Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on Friday.
Mirwaiz Manzil, the office of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, confirmed that the authorities had once again confined the Mirwaiz to his home in Srinagar. “The authorities have once again placed Mirwaiz Kashmir under house arrest today, preventing him from going to the historic Jama Masjid, Srinagar, to deliver the sermon and offer Friday prayers,” the statement said.
It said the Mirwaiz was also scheduled to launch the annual Mirwaiz Foundation Calendar, “a programme meant to celebrate our shared spiritual and cultural heritage, yet even this was denied by force.”
The statement condemned the curtailment of peaceful religious or community activities, calling it “very sad and unjust.” Monitoring Desk
