Preparations finalized for 21st Cholistan Desert Rally 2026

Punjab, PTDC launch Tourism Outreach Program

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development for the promotion of tourism, the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) and Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) jointly organized a Tourism Outreach Program in Islamabad. The event, aimed at preparations for the 21st Cholistan Desert Rally 2026, was held under the Government of Punjab’s vision of “Magnificent Punjab.”

The Cholistan Desert Rally, scheduled to take place from 4 to 8 February 2026 in the Cholistan Desert of Bahawalpur, has evolved over the years from a motorsports event into a major cultural and tourism festival. It attracts significant participation from foreign embassies, drivers, media representatives, and the general public. The rally has become an important platform for showcasing South Punjab’s culture, heritage, adventure sports, and economic potential.

Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry appreciated the joint efforts of TDCP and PTDC. He said the Cholistan Desert Rally serves as an effective tool for highlighting Pakistan’s adventure tourism, cultural identity, and positive image at the global level. He added that such events play a vital role in boosting investment, employment, and people-to-people engagement.

TDCP Managing Director Asim Raza, in his address, said that Punjab possesses vast tourism potential, and the corporation is implementing a comprehensive strategy to promote these opportunities at national and international levels. He noted that the Thal and Cholistan desert rallies have positioned South Punjab as an emerging winter tourism destination. He added that TDCP not only organizes large-scale events but also runs tourism awareness campaigns across the province.

PTDC Managing Director Aftab ur Rehman Rana appreciated TDCP’s leadership in organizing the Cholistan Rally. He said strong participation from foreign embassies is enhancing Pakistan’s tourism diplomacy. According to him, close coordination between federal and provincial institutions is essential for presenting Pakistan as a competitive and attractive tourism destination. The program featured the official announcement of the rally dates, a promotional launch, screening of a documentary film, and cultural performances representing the vibrant heritage of Punjab. The participation of foreign diplomats, drivers, electronic media, and social media influencers further strengthened the promotional impact of the event and heightened anticipation for the 2026 rally.
