Salim Saifullah Khan calls for renewed Pakistan-Afghanistan brotherhood
PESHAWAR: Former Federal Minister and Senator Salim Saifullah Khan has welcomed the recent progress in efforts to promote peace and understanding between Pakistan and Afghanistan, expressing deep satisfaction and hope for a new era of regional harmony.
In a statement issued here on Monday, Saifullah said that “Pakistan and Afghanistan are bound by faith, history, culture, and geography. Peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan and peace in Pakistan means peace in Afghanistan.”
He recalled that there was a time when people of both countries could travel freely across the border without visa restrictions, reflecting the deep trust and shared heritage that united them. “Those relations of brotherhood and openness should be revived,” he added.
Saifullah emphasized that Pakistan has always stood shoulder to shoulder with Afghanistan and will continue to do so.
“We are brothers, we were brothers before, and we are brothers now. Our culture, traditions, and values are one,” he said.
Reflecting on his tenure as Federal Minister, Saifullah shared that he visited Kabul several times and held meetings with Afghan elders and leaders, where he always advocated for stronger cooperation and mutual respect.
He added that he consistently believed Afghanistan’s needs should be considered alongside Pakistan’s in matters of trade and imports, such as in the case of wheat and other essential goods.
“Afghanistan is not a separate or distant country for us, it is our brotherly nation,” he noted.
Saifullah urged both sides to rise above political differences and external conspiracies, saying that division only serves the interests of those who wish to see instability in the region.
“We must not become victims of politics or foreign designs. Our strength lies in unity, peace, and mutual respect,” he stressed.
He concluded by reaffirming his unwavering belief that “the stability and prosperity of Pakistan and Afghanistan are deeply interlinked. Together, we can secure a peaceful future for our peoples and the wider Muslim Ummah.” APP
