Youth potential being harnessed as NAVTTC programs show positive results: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that the government was prioritising to provide technical and vocational training to the youth with international certifications in skills with high global demand.

The prime minister, chairing a meeting on enhancing employment opportunities for the country’s youth, said that positive results had started emerging from the comprehensive training programs launched through the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) to harness the youth’s potential.

Expressing satisfaction over the performance of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program under the leadership of RanaMashhood Ahmed Khan, the prime minister called the youth “future of our nation” and highlighted the government’s initiatives to provide them with professional skills to integrate them into the workforce.

He instructed to accelerate the work on the initiatives aimed at technical and vocational training of youth in line with contemporary requirements.

He noted that following recent reforms in NAVTTC, a significant improvement had been witnessed in the provision of technical training to young people.

The meeting was briefed on measures being taken to create employment opportunities for youth, both at the national and international levels. The PM Youth Program and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have identified multiple job opportunities for Pakistani youth at the international level, and more avenues were also being explored.

It was highlighted that the PM Youth Hub had become a central role in providing information regarding job opportunities and that the IT, healthcare, construction, tourism, and logistics sectors offered numerous job opportunities.

The meeting was told that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan was tracking the employment status of graduates from 282 universities through a digital application, which maintains a record of graduates who have secured employment to help formulate future education policies.

It was informed that after introducing the Matric-Tech program in 32 educational institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education, an Inter-Tech program would soon be launched for technical and vocational training.
