Devon Conway addresses IPL remarks amid PSL duties

KARACHI: New Zealand wicketkeeper batter Devon Conway on Wednesday cleared the air on his alleged statement regarding the Indian Premier League (IPL) during his affiliation with Islamabad United for the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.

A statement from a verified X account impersonating the New Zealand international went viral earlier this week, in which he reacted to Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing IPL, stating it was “hard to sit out” and see the five-time champions lose.

“Hard to sit this one out… Watching CSK lose to Rajasthan Royals hurts. Right now I’m locked in with PSL duties, but revenge at Chepauk will always be on my mind,” the account impersonating Conway had written on the microblogging website.

The post quickly gained traction, sparking debate among cricket fans about whether the experienced wicketkeeper batter should comment on the rival league while being part of the PSL.

Conway, however, took to his official Instagram account, dismissing the statement and urging the fans to ignore the fake account. He further clarified that he does not have accounts on either X or Facebook.

“Hey guys, please ignore this X account impersonating me. I am not on X/Facebook and this account is not affiliated with me in any way,” Conway wrote on his Instagram story.

He also shared that he had already reported the account and expressed his hope that it would be taken down promptly. “I have reported it and hopefully it can be taken down as soon as possible.”

For the unversed, Conway has represented the CSK in three IPL editions in 2022, 2023 and 2025, which added weight to the statement circulating by his name. Web Desk
