Forces kill eleven terrorists in Kohat, Lakki districts of KP

PESHAWAR: At least eleven terrorists were killed during separate operations of security forces in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday.

Six terrorists were killed in Kohat district during an exchange of fire in a joint operation by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and police.

Kohat District Police Officer Shehbaz Elahi said the operation was carried out after intelligence reports indicated that terrorists were present in different areas of Lachi and were planning a major attack.

Following the information, heavy contingents of CTD and police launched a joint search and strike operation in the area.

According to DPO Elahi, the suspects opened fire as soon as they saw the security personnel. Police and CTD officers returned fire, leading to an exchange in which six terrorists were killed.

Police said weapons were also recovered from the terrorists. The DPO added that the area has been completely cordoned off and a search operation is continuing.

In the separate intelligence-based operation (IBO), security forces killed five terrorists in Lakki Marwat district on Sunday.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the IBO was conducted on the reported presence of “khawarij belonging to Indian proxy, Fitna al Khawarij”.

Fitna al Khawarij is a term that the state uses for banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

“During the conduct of the operation, own troops effectively engaged the khawarij location, and after an intense fire exchange, five khawarij were sent to hell,” the ISPR statement said.

Weapons and ammunition were found in the possession of slain “India- sponsored khawarij, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area”, it added.

“Sanitisation operation is being conducted to eliminate any other India-sponsored kharji found in the area, as the relentless counter-terrorism campaign under the vision ‘Azm-i-Istehkam’ (as approved by the federal apex committee on National Action Plan) by security forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country,” the statement read.

Sunday’s operation is the latest action against terrorists in Lakki Marwat, where the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) killed six terrorists during an IBO two days ago.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised security forces for their successful operation in Kohat and Lakki districts.

On Saturday, six terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation carried out by the K-P CTD in Lakki Marwat. The development came after at least seven police personnel, including the station house officer of Shadi Khel police station, were martyred on Friday when an improvised explosive device targeted a police mobile in Lakki Marwat.
