Police arrest 450 Afghan nationals, 15 landlords in Peshawar, Bannu
PESHAWAR: On Sunday, police in Peshawar and Bannu districts carried out a major crackdown on undocumented Afghans, resulting in the arrest of 450 Afghan nationals and 15 local landlords.
In Peshawar, SP Faqirabad Resham Jehangir reported that city police arrested 350 Afghan residents who were living in area illegally. To support these efforts, Deputy Commissioner Sanaullah Khan has asked the public for help.
Announcements were made in local mosques encouraging citizens to report any information about undocumented residents by calling the police emergency line (15) or contacting the DC office.
In Bannu district, police targeted both undocumented residents and people helping them. The District Police Officer (DPO) confirmed that 115 people were detained, including 100 Afghan nationals and 15 landlords who had rented out their properties to them.
Police stations across both divisions have registered cases and started formal investigations.
DPO Bannu warned that raids will continue until the districts are cleared of illegal foreigners, and strict legal action will be taken against any property owners who rent houses or shops to those without proper legal status. APP
