Sindh launches first e-office, phases out paper files
Karachi: Provincial government has formally launched its first-ever electronic office (E-Office) system, marking a significant shift toward paperless governance. According to an official statement, the E-Office system has been made operational at the Chief Minister’s House Secretariat from February 23, 2026.
All official correspondence — including that of the principal secretary, additional secretaries, section officers and other senior officials — will now be conducted exclusively through the digital platform. The circular makes clear that even high-level correspondence will be processed entirely through the E-Office system. The use of physical files has been discontinued, with paper-based documentation declared no longer permissible for official communications.
All departments operating under the Chief Minister’s Secretariat have been directed to immediately transition to the digital platform. Necessary and active files must be scanned and uploaded without delay, the statement said. The remaining record of the Secretariat will be digitized in phases and is expected to be completed within one month. To facilitate implementation, the IT section will provide training sessions and tutorials for staff. Officials have also been instructed to promptly report any technical or operational issues encountered during the rollout.
The circular was issued by Principal Secretary Agha Wasif under the chief minister’s instructions. Murad Shah has described digital file management as a cornerstone for improving transparency, efficiency and record management within the provincial administration. Officials said the move is expected to significantly enhance the speed of correspondence, strengthen documentation practices and promote greater accountability across government offices.
