315,000-acre cotton target for Multan division; 16,000 acres sown

MULTAN: Punjab has set a target of 315,000 acres for early cotton cultivation in Multan Division for 2026-27.

This was informed in a meeting chaired by Commissioner Multan Division Aamir Kareem Khan and attended by officials from agriculture department. According to the briefing, 16,000 acres have already been sown, while 20,244 farmers have been registered so far. A total of 97,564 acres has also been registered across the division.

The district-wise targets include 62,811 acres for Multan, 87,791 acres for Khanewal, 71,914 acres for Lodhran, and 92,484 acres for Vehari.

Director Agriculture (Extension) Shehzad Sabir gave a detailed briefing on the current situation of cotton and the future strategy.

The Commissioner directed the Agriculture Department’s field staff to remain fully active to resolve farmers’ issues. He emphasized timely monitoring of whitefly, jassid, thrips, and weeds to prevent crop losses.

He further instructed officials to accelerate pest scouting and surveillance to immediately control any attack of harmful insects.

The meeting was informed that sufficient canal water has been ensured for the cotton crop across the division.

Aamir Karim Khan stated that farmers’ livelihood is linked to land, and addressing their concerns remains the government’s top priority. He added that the Punjab government is taking practical steps to provide relief to farmers and reduce production costs. APP
