Pakistan defeat USA by 32 runs in T20 World Cup
COLOMBO: Pakistan secured a 32‑run victory over the United States of America in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on Tuesday.
Batting first, Pakistan posted 190 for 9 in their 20 overs, led by a scintillating 73 off 41 balls from Sahibzada Farhan and a steady 46 from Babar Azam. All-rounder Shadab Khan added a late burst with 30 runs from 12 deliveries to lift the total beyond 190.
Chasing 191, the USA made a steady start but were unable to match the required run rate as Pakistan’s bowlers applied pressure at crucial moments. Usman Tariq emerged as the standout performer, taking three key wickets, while the combined spin and pace attack ensured the Americans could only reach 158 for 8 in their 20 overs.
The result holds special significance as the USA had famously defeated Pakistan in a Super Over during the 2024 T20 World Cup. Pakistan’s controlled yet aggressive performance with both bat and ball showed a clear response to that upset, keeping them unbeaten in the tournament so far and strengthening their prospects for reaching the Super Eight stage.
