Govt’s committed to attracting foreign investment in tech sector: Fatima

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja reaffirmed the government’s commitment to attracting foreign investment in the technology sector.

Talking to a two-member Chinese technology delegation from the Leviathan Group, specializing in big data centers, advanced digital solutions, smart technologies and emerging IT platforms, she highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure, improve regulatory frameworks and create a business-friendly environment for international technology companies.

During the meeting, the delegation explored investment and cooperation opportunities in Pakistan’s growing information technology sector, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI). They discussed prospects for long-term partnerships, joint ventures and technology transfer, highlighting Pakistan’s evolving digital ecosystem as a key driver of interest, Gwadar Pro reported. The delegation comprised Sun MingQian, Chief Executive Officer of Leviathan Technologies, and Mei Dinglin, Senior Representative of the Group. The Minister also underscored Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s “Digital Nation Pakistan” vision to position the country as a regional hub for IT services and innovation. Khalid Taimur Akram, Adviser to the Chairman of HRL Group said that Leviathan Group has expressed strong interest in investing in Pakistan’s AI industry. He said the company views Pakistan as a strategic destination due to its skilled IT workforce, expanding startup ecosystem and the government’s emphasis on digital transformation.

He said that Leviathan Group is exploring opportunities to establish AI-driven data centres and research and development facilities in collaboration with Pakistani public and private sector partners.

“The group is keen on long-term engagement and is evaluating investment models that support technology transfer, local capacity building and skills development in advanced digital technologies,” he said. Staff Report
