Tottenham approach Liverpool to sign Andy Robertson

LONDON: Tottenham Hotspur have reached out to Liverpool for Andy Robertson, who is out of contract this summer. Robertson, 31, has started just four times in the Premier League this season for Liverpool and last week he said that he is undecided on his future.

The Scotland international is eager to get a chance as a regular starter before the FIFA World Cup 2026, as he is aiming for a place in the final squad of the national team for the mega event. Last week, when he was asked if he would like to stay, the Scotland international said: “Yes, but it’s a difficult question.

“I’ve got five months left and we need to see what the option is to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that. I need to sit down with my family and decide. “After a stressful summer, I’m just trying to enjoy being a part of it and being a Liverpool player.

“I wanted to qualify for the World Cup and thankfully we’ve managed to do that. I need to see what myself and my family wants going forward.” According to BBC Sport, Spurs have approached Liverpool, but nothing is finalised at this stage. Andy Robertson has played 363 games since joining Liverpool, and his most recent appearance came from the bench against Burnley in a 1-1 draw on January 17.

He has been replaced as a starter by Hungary international Milos Kerkez, 22, as the youngster has been Liverpool’s first-choice left-back since joining the club from Bournemouth for £40m last summer. Robertson, who joined Liverpool from Hull City for £8m in 2017, will be a free agent at the end of the season. Web Desk
