David Warner compares Zaman Khan’s action to ‘a four-year-old bowling’

BRISBANE: Sydney Thunder captain David Warner compared Pakistan’s emerging pacer Zaman Khan’s bowling action to that of a four-year-old during their Big Bash League (BBL) match against Brisbane Heat at the Brisbane Cricket Ground on Saturday.

The incident occurred after the 14th over of the Thunder’s innings, bowled by Zaman, when Warner was caught on stump-mic telling on-field umpire Ben Treloar that the pacer’s slingy bowling action, with a very low release point, reminded him of “a four-year-old bowling.”

Treloar gave a negligible reaction to David Warner’s comments, resulting in the veteran opener stepping aside and getting ready to take his mark at the non-striker’s end. Notably, Zaman had a forgetful outing with the ball for the Heat as he conceded 32 runs in his three overs and went wicketless.

However, despite Zaman’s struggles with the ball, Heat romped to a resounding seven-wicket victory over the Thunder, courtesy of Usman Khawaja’s blistering half-century in the run chase. For the unversed, Zaman joined the two-time champions as an international for compatriot Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury.

Known for his distinctive slinging action, Zaman previously represented the Thunder in BBL 13, where he featured in four matches and claimed eight wickets at an impressive average of 16.38. Since then, he has gone on to play 10 T20 Internationals and one One-Day International for Pakistan.

The 24-year-old, who is captained by Shaheen Afridi at Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League, recently showcased his form in the Abu Dhabi T10, taking a hat-trick in his first match of the tournament. In addition to the PSL and BBL, he has also gained experience in England’s The Hundred, representing Manchester Originals. Web Desk
