Tajik minister lauds Avicenna University for boosting Pak–Tajik medical education ties
DUSHANBE: First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, Hoshimzoda Homid Hasan, has praised Avicenna Tajik State Medical University (ATSMU) for its pivotal role in strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and Tajikistan in medical science and education.
Addressing a meeting with a visiting delegation of Pakistani journalists led by Dr Muhammad Abbas Mahar, CEO of MBBS Abroad Private Consultancy (Pvt) Ltd, the deputy minister said medical sciences and education serve as a cornerstone for bringing the two nations closer, with youth playing a key role in institutional integration.
He said enhanced institutional cooperation reflects the shared vision of both governments to expand collaboration in medical tourism and sciences, contributing to economic growth. He added that both countries have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for student and faculty exchanges to further deepen cooperation.
Highlighting the media’s role, he stressed that greater awareness—particularly about medical tourism opportunities—could significantly enhance cooperation in the health sector. He expressed optimism that the journalists’ visit would prove a milestone in promoting mutual understanding and collaboration.
The deputy minister said Tajikistan is emerging as a regional hub for medical students from neighbouring countries, with universities adhering to international standards and offering modern facilities. He added that the country’s medical sector is also expanding advanced medical tourism, including specialised surgeries and treatments.
He said the top leadership of both countries remains committed to strengthening people-to-people contacts, which are essential for sustainable bilateral relations.
Dr Muhammad Abbas Mahar said ATSMU currently hosts around 450 Pakistani medical students, significantly advancing medical education exchanges. He noted that Tajikistan is well positioned to become a regional leader in medical education and health services, offering quality opportunities to international students.
Beyond clinical care, he said Tajikistan also holds strong potential in wellness tourism, with about 45 sanatoriums and health resorts providing mineral baths, mud therapy, herbal treatments, and programmes for respiratory ailments, musculoskeletal disorders, and overall rehabilitation. APP
