Indian govt’s default response to Kashmir is use of force: Mirwaiz
SRINAGAR: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has condemned the house arrest of political leaders, activists and student representatives who were scheduled to lead a peaceful student protest in Srinagar against the anti-education policies of the Indian government in the territory.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq wrote on the social networking site ‘X’, “Whether it is a peaceful protest or any other issue, the Indian government’s default response to every issue related to Kashmir has been ‘use of force’.
He said the students wanted to peacefully protest against the reservation policy because they consider it unfair and a threat to their future. He said, “Public concerns are resolved through dialogue and not through sanctions or punishment.”
Mirwaiz also criticized the elected government of the occupied territory, saying it has a responsibility to protect democratic rights, inform New Delhi about the concerns of the youth and try to address these concerns.
He also raised the issue of harassment of Kashmiris in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and other parts of India and said that the government should also take this matter seriously.
It may be recalled that the Indian administration placed Kashmiri politicians Mehbooba Mufti, Agha Ruhullah Mehdi, Abdul Waheed Para and former Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu under house arrest in Srinagar to prevent them from leading the protest. Staff Report
