Babar my favourite Pakistani player: Sameer

LAHORE: Young middle-order batter Sameer Minhas has revealed his favourite player from the Pakistan cricket team after emerging as the star performer in the recently concluded ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025.

During an interview with a local news platform, Minhas was asked about his favourite Pakistani cricketer, to which he responded, “Babar Azam is my favourite player in the Pakistan Cricket Team.”

The right-handed batter made headlines throughout the tournament, single-handedly leading Pakistan to their first-ever U19 Asia Cup title in the 35-year history of the competition. Minhas finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, amassing 471 runs in five games at an astonishing average of 157.00 and a strike rate of 117.45, including two centuries and one fifty.

His highest score came against Malaysia U19, where he smashed 177 not out. In the high-octane final against arch-rivals India, the 19-year-old once again showcased his brilliance, playing an exceptional knock of 172 off 113 deliveries, featuring 17 fours and nine sixes.

Batting first, Pakistan posted a massive 347-8 in 50 overs, with Ahmed Hussain also contributing 56 off 72 balls. Chasing 348, India were bowled out for 156 in 26.2 overs, handing Pakistan a comprehensive 191-run victory.  Young pacer Ali Raza led the bowling attack with 4 wickets for 42 runs in 6.2 overs, while Ahmed Hussain and Huzaifa Ahsan chipped in with two wickets each to seal the historic win for the boys in green.
