Prominent tribal leader killed in South Waziristan targeted attack
PESHAWAR:A prominent tribal leader was killed in a targeted shooting in South Waziristan on Sunday, police informed.
According to police, Torabi, a key tribal elder belonging to the Suleman Khel tribe and a resident of Zarmilan, was shot dead by unknown assailants. The incident occurred in Azam Warsak area of Tehsil Barmal while he was traveling from Azam Warsak to his native town Zarmilan.
Police said the attackers opened fire on Torabi at the Goldona Ghundai location, killing him on the spot. Following the incident, law enforcement agencies cordoned off the crime scene and began collecting evidence.
Law enforcers have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and to apprehend those responsible. Police stated that all possible angles of the case are being examined.
Local residents have expressed serious concern over the worsening law and order situation in Tehsil Barmal. According to police incidents of terrorism and targeted killings have significantly increased in the area over the past year, prompting residents to demand stricter security measures. APP
