Gerrard asks Liverpool star to resolve issue between Salah, club

LONDON: Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has asked Virgil van Dijk to step in and resolve the issue between the club, Arne Slot and Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool star Salah has expressed frustration over his recent treatment at the club, saying he feels ‘thrown under the bus’. After his comments, Salah was left out of the Liverpool squad for the Champions League match against Inter Milan, but he avoided any disciplinary action. Salah was an unused substitute in Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United, marking his third consecutive game on the bench.

The Egyptian forward spoke with journalists about his frustration after the match, saying he had been thrown under the bus. “I have done so much for this club over the years, especially last season. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. Someone wants me to get all the blame!” Salah said. Speaking to TNT Sports, Gerrard said that he respects Salah’s frustration, but the Liverpool forward should take a step back, and Van Dijk should be the man to step in and sort things. “He’s obviously really upset he’s not playing, which I respect. He won’t sit out of the team, which I respect. The couple of lines about throwing people under the bus [is] wrong,” Gerrard said. “He needs to reverse a little bit away from that. He needs to deal with that with the manager. This needs Virgil van Dijk to go, ‘How are we sorting this out for the benefit of not the club, or the team, but the fans?'” Salah, Liverpool’s third-highest scorer with 250 goals, became the first Premier League player to finish a season with the most goals (29) and assists (18) while earning the Player of the Year award last season; however, he has scored only four times across all competitions this season for the Reds.
