Filed Marshal urges unity to confront security threats
COAS, Iranian security chief discuss counter-terrorism collaboration
RAWALPINDI: National unity is Pakistan’s greatest strength, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal AsimMunir said while addressing the National Security Workshop-27 on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The field marshal said that the protection of Pakistan’s territory, national integrity, and the safety of every citizen remain the Pakistan Army’s highest priorities, with no compromises to be made.
Field Marshal AsimMunir noted that challenges such as rising geopolitical tensions, cross-border terrorism, and hybrid warfare have further complicated the security environment.
However, despite externally supported terrorism and information warfare, Pakistan’s armed forces and intelligence agencies continue to demonstrate unwavering resolve, professional excellence, and steadfastness in safeguarding national security, the army chief said.
The NSW-27 training programme brings together members of parliament, senior civil and military officers, academics, and civil society representatives on a single platform to build awareness on national security matters.
Participants at the event held at the General Headquarters also held a special session with the army chief. They were briefed on Pakistan’s regional and internal security environment, as well as measures being taken against illegal activities in the country.
These include crackdowns on smuggling, drug trafficking, and organised crime networks. Updates were also shared on improved border management and efforts for the repatriation of illegal foreigners.
The army chief asserted that Pakistan will defeat the nefarious designs of its enemies through unity and stated that coordinated national efforts with federal and provincial governments are essential for sustainable peace, stability, and prosperity.
Meanwhile, Field Marshal AsimMunir on Wednesday met with Iran’s top security official Ali ArdeshirLarijani in Rawalpindi, where he stressed the need for counter-terrorism cooperation between their countries.
Larijani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), called on the army chief at the General Headquarters in the garrison city, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability, COAS Muniremphasised the “need for closer collaboration with Iran to combat terrorism”.
“He also highlighted the growing importance of strategic cooperation in light of the evolving geopolitical situation,” the ISPR said.
Today’s meeting between COAS Munir and Larijani focused on bilateral cooperation, regional security issues, and the importance of strengthening ties between Pakistan and Iran. “Both dignitaries discussed the prevailing security dynamics in the region,” the ISPR added.
Larijani acknowledged “Pakistan’s vital role in ensuring peace and security in the region and expressed his commitment to furthering Iran-Pakistan ties”, according to the ISPR.
