Ilham Aliyev lauds Pakistan for promoting regional stability
PM offers Iran cooperation in economic development, trade
ISLAMABAD/BAKU: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated that the victory of Azerbaijan against Armenia served as a beacon of hope for oppressed people striving for self-determination including the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and Palestine.
He was talking to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at Presidential Palace in Baku on Friday.
Chief of the Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was also present on this occasion.
The Prime Minister felicitated the government and people of Azerbaijan on the victory day which is observed to commemorate historic victory in the forty-four day long Karabakh Liberation War against Armenia.
He also appreciated President Ilham Aliyev for signing the historic peace agreement with Armenia earlier this year.
The two leaders reviewed the whole range of bilateral relationship and agreed to further strengthen their multi-layered cooperation in the fields of politics, trade and investment, energy, connectivity, and defence.
Shehbaz Sharif extended an invitation to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience, which he graciously accepted.
On his part, President Ilham Aliyev thanked Pakistan for its consistent support to Azerbaijan in its just struggle against illegal occupation of Karabagh region.
He also appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability in South Asia.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif landed in Baku on Friday on a two-day official visit to Azerbaijan to attend the country’s Victory Day celebrations at the invitation of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.
Azerbaijan Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov, First Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Razayev, Ambassador of Pakistan to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin, and diplomatic staff welcomed the prime minister upon his arrival at Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
Information Minister Ataullah Tarar is also accompanying PM Shehbaz on the visit.
During the visit from November 7-8, PM Shehbaz will take part in the celebrations marking the fifth anniversary of the country’s Victory Day, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Friday.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday extended Pakistan’s offer for cooperation to Iran for economic development and bilateral trade, the Prime Minister Office (PMO) said in a statement.
During a meeting between Speaker of Iranian Parliament Dr Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and PM Shehbaz, the PM expressed that “Pakistan is eager to foster cooperation in the fields of mutual interest including economic development and bilateral trade.”
The PMO said Ghalibaf along with a delegation called on the premier in Islamabad, where they were warmly received by the latter. On this occasion, the PM recalled the cordial bilateral ties with the brotherly Muslim country of Iran.
He reiterated firm commitment of both countries for peaceful means of dialogue and diplomacy for resolution of all outstanding disputes around the world.
