Pakistan issues first alert for tropical cyclone
ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department has issued its first warning alert regarding a tropical cyclone developing in the northeast Arabian Sea.
While the system currently poses no threat to Pakistan’s coastal areas, officials say it may intensify in the coming days.
According to the Met Office, a low-pressure system has formed near the Gulf of Cumbe and the Indian state of Gujarat. Forecasts indicate that the system is likely to strengthen and enter the northeast Arabian Sea around October 1.
Meteorologists predict that the low pressure may evolve into a depression over the next few days. This would be the first significant tropical weather system in the region ahead of the post-monsoon season.
Despite the warning, the Met Office has clarified that there is currently no danger to any coastal area of Pakistan, including Karachi. Residents have been urged to remain calm but stay updated through official advisories.
The Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi is closely observing the system’s development and will continue to issue regular updates. Authorities have advised fishermen and coastal communities to remain alert as conditions evolve. Staff Report
