US expresses desire for peaceful Kashmir solution

WASHINGTON: The United States has expressed its desire for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

A State Department spokesperson said it is ready to mediate between Pakistan and India if they formally request it.

She said Washington sees Kashmir as a bilateral dispute that should be resolved through dialogue. She said that the United States helped broker a ceasefire between Pakistan and India during the clashes in May.

The spokesperson said President Donald Trump is already dealing with several global crises, but the United States is ready to help if invited by both governments. Monitoring Desk
