ISLAMABAD: The FIA Anti-Corruption Cell has registered a case against former member (Academics) of the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA), Imtiaz Ali Qureshi, on the directives of the court over serious charges including alleged forgery, corruption and embezzlement, misuse of authority, theft of official record and property, and illegal appropriation of government vehicles.
According to details, Qureshi’s appointment was allegedly made in violation of rules and regulations. Despite being on contract, his tenure was unlawfully extended, and he was recruited on the “one post, one candidate” basis without proper gazette notification or obtaining an NOC from the Establishment Division. Even the appointment letter was not issued by the ministry concerned.
The petition filed in court further alleged that Qureshi deliberately made the entire record of his unlawful appointment disappear. The Ministry concerned constituted an inquiry committee, which submitted its report on April 12, 2021. The report held Qureshi responsible for not only removing official records but also misusing authority, misappropriating vehicles, and committing financial irregularities worth millions.
The case was placed before the Federal Cabinet, which in its meeting held on September 23, 2021, ordered his dismissal from service. Meanwhile, he allegedly managed to get himself illegally appointed as a member of the National Rehmatul-lil-Alameen Authority.
The petition demanded strict legal action against him for stealing government vehicles, making false claims of professional experience to secure PEIRA membership, financial corruption, misuse of authority, and theft of official record and property.
The FIA Anti-Corruption Cell, acting on court orders, initiated an inquiry which led to the registration of an FIR against Imtiaz Ali Qureshi.
