Ali Gilani’s life enduring resistance symbol for Kashmiris against oppression
President, PM pay tribute to iconic leader’s struggle, steadfastness on his death anniversary

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday paid tribute to prominent Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Gilani on his fourth death anniversary, lauding his lifelong struggle and steadfastness for the cause of the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people.
The president, in his message on the day, said that late Ali Gilani’s life was a symbol of sacrifice who dedicated his entire life to the struggle for the UN-guaranteed right to self-determination.
He said that Ali Gilani was a role model for those who believed in truth and justice as Indian oppression in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir could not shake his resolve and courage.
President Zardari said that Ali Gilani’s resolute stance kept the Kashmiri people firm in their struggle for freedom.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s continuous support to the Kashmir cause on every platform, he said that Syed Ali Gilani’s sacrifice would keep the freedom movement alive forever, also manifested by the Indian failure to undermine the resolve of the Kashmiri people.
He prayed for peace for Ali Gilani’s soul and reiterated the call for granting the right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday paying tribute to founder of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Gilani, said that his life was an enduring symbol of resistance for the Kashmiri people against oppression.
The prime minister, who is in China to attend the SCO summit, in his message on the fourth anniversary of Syed Ali Gilani, said that the Kashmiri leader dedicated his life to the struggle for Kashmir’s freedom and played a pivotal role in the Kashmiri people’s struggle for the cause.
He said that through his political acumen and prudent leadership, Syed Ali Gilani always raised the voice of Kashmir and its people to make it heard across the world.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said that the Ali Gilani’s unwavering love for Pakistan was a source of pride and a symbol of spiritual and heartfelt connection with the Kashmiri people.
He said that Gilani’s slogan “We are Pakistani – Pakistan is ours” continued to resonate among the Kashmiris and stayed strong in the minds of their oppressors.
Ali Gilani’s political teachings are a legacy of awareness and struggle for the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir, he added.
