Cop martyred, 3 terrorists killed in Kohat attack

PESHAWAR: A police officer was martyred and two other cops were wounded in a bloody encounter between the police and the terrorists following the later ambushed a police party in Kohat district on Saturday. However, three terrorists were also gunned by the men in uniform in retaliatory fire.

Reports reaching here said a group of terrorists carried out an attack on the police in Lachi tehsil of the Kohat that left a senior police officer martyred and caused serious wounds to two cops.

“Unidentified terrorists launched a cowardly attack on the police personnel in the Lachi area of Kohat, that resulted in the Shahadat of a police officer Inspector Ashfaq while two others were injured seriously,” Regional Police Officer, Kohat, Abbas Majeed Marwat said adding in retaliatory fire as many as three terrorists were also neutralised.

Separately, the Police repulsed a terrorist attack on a police station in Bannu district on Friday late night. Reports say the terrorists launched an attack at Mariyaan Police station on the night between Friday and Saturday with sophisticated weapons. However, the assault remained abortive as the alert cops retaliated effectively forcing the militants to flee.

Police authorities say, no one was injured in the attack though the building of the Police station sustained damage. Police have started a probe into the attack and launched a search operation in the area.
