Engineer Mirza booked under blasphemy, cybercrime laws

JHELUM: Religious scholar and YouTuber Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza has been booked in Jhelum after a case was registered against him for allegedly using blasphemous language in a video.
Police confirmed that the FIR was filed on the complaint of Humair Ali Qadri.
According to officials, the case includes Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with blasphemy-related offenses, and provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016. Police stated that the FIR was lodged at the City Police Station in Jhelum.
He was arrested amid rising controversy over his remarks in the online video, which drew criticism from religious groups.
According to police officials, Mirza was arrested on the directives of the Jhelum deputy commissioner and later transferred to jail.
Authorities also sealed Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza’s academy, locking its premises to prevent any gatherings or activities. The action comes amid heightened monitoring of religious institutions across the district.
