Levies confirm JUI-F leader, wife wounded
PESHAWAR: In a tragic incident a senior leader of the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam-F and its district Ameer of Malakand Mufti KifayatUllah was seriously injured in an attack at his residence that left his son and a daughter martyred while his wife also received serious wounds.
Senior officials said the firing took place at Mufti Kifayatullah’s residence on Saturday. Authorities confirmed that his son was responsible for the shooting, after which the accused fled the scene.
The injured family members, including Mufti Kifayatullah, his wife, and other victims, were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Batkhela for treatment. Hospital sources later confirmed that the JUI leader’s condition was out of danger. However, his wife’s condition was described as precarious.
“Mufti Kifayatullah was seriously wounded in a shooting spree as his daughter and son were killed in the attack while his wife remains in serious condition,” the Levies officials said adding emergency teams swiftly transferred the bodies and injured to the hospital for medical attention. Local police and Levies are investigating the motive behind the attack and are coordinating with hospital officials to gather statements.
Deputy Commissioner Malakand Hamidur Rehman told newsmen that the shooter managed to flee from the scene after attacking the family yet in a swift response police managed to arrest the suspected assailant who turned out to be Mufti Kifayatullah’s other son.
Also in March 2025 at least four worshippers, including JUI-F’s district chief Abdullah Nadeem, were injured in a blast in a mosque in South Waziristan district the same month. NNI
