Kashmiris observing Indian Independence Day as Black Day today
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and around the world are observing the Indian Independence Day, today, as Black Day to register protest against New Delhi’s forcible and illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.
The call to observe Black Day has been given by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and supported by all pro-freedom leaders and organizations.
The Kashmiris living abroad will hold anti-India demonstrations to draw the world’s attention to ongoing Indian atrocities in the occupied territory.
Meanwhile, the authorities have converted the entire occupied Jammu and Kashmir, especially Srinagar, into a military garrison. Restrictions have been further tightened across the territory to prevent protests in support of Pakistan and against India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir. The Bakhshi Stadium in Srinagar, the venue of the official function, has been fortified with multiple layers of security measures. Barriers have been erected at key locations across the city, and vehicles, passengers, and pedestrians are being subjected to strict searches.
Indian forces’ personnel have launched massive cordon and search operations across Kupwara, Bandipora and Baramulla districts, arresting several youth and spreading fear among residents. In Kupwara, operations are underway in Wajhama, Awoora and the Gulgam forest area, where three youth were detained. In Bandipora’s Shadipora area, multiple arrests were made during house raids. In Baramulla’s Uri area, house-to-house searches entered the second day today, following the killing of an Indian soldier in an attack on Wednesday.
