ANTIGUA: Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named a 15-member squad for the three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan, scheduled to commence at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad on August 8.
The core of the squad remains the same that featured in the series against England earlier this year in the United Kingdom (UK).
Among the notable exclusions is that of fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who has been given rest to manage his workload, whereas Romario Shepherd has returned after missing the tour of Ireland and England.
Following the squad announcement, West Indies head coach Darren Sammy hailed Pakistan as a challenging opponent and emphasized the importance of 2027 World Cup qualification. “Pakistan presents a different test and challenge as we continue our push for automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup,” he said. “While qualifying is our immediate goal, maintaining a winning mentality and team cohesion is essential for long-term success,” Sammy added.
He mentioned Pakistan’s team ranking and deemed the series as crucial for scalping valuable ranking points. “The upcoming matches against teams like Pakistan, who are ranked higher, provide crucial opportunities to earn valuable ranking points to improve our standing ahead of the World Cup,” he concluded.
The three-match series begins on August 8 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad & Tobago, with the remaining matches to be played at the same venue on August 10 and 12. The ODI series also marks the return of senior players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to international action for Pakistan.
Prior to arriving in Trinidad, Pakistan defeated West Indies 2-1 in a T20I series held in Lauderhill, Florida.
