DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday announced the nominees for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2025, including England’s Test captain Ben Stokes.

Along with Stokes, his Indian counterpart Shubman Gill and South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder have also been shortlisted after outstanding individual performances during high-stakes Test series.

Gill led from the front in India’s enthralling five-match Test series against England, scoring 567 runs at an average of 94.50. The young captain’s standout moment came at Edgbaston, where he registered twin centuries, a stunning 269 in the first innings followed by 161 in the second, powering India to a famous victory.

Batting at No. 4 in his debut series as full-time Test captain, Gill continued his purple patch with another century, 103 at Old Trafford, to help India secure a crucial draw and level the series 2-2. On the other hand, Ben Stokes continued to be England’s talisman with a string of impactful performances in the series against India. The English captain scored 251 runs at 50.20 and picked up 12 wickets at 26.33 across the three Tests.

He was named Player of the Match twice, first at Lord’s, where he starred in both departments to guide England to a commanding win, and then at Old Trafford, where his five-for and blazing 141 set the tone for England’s massive 669-run first innings. Whether with bat, ball, or leadership, Ben Stokes played a central role in keeping England competitive throughout the series.

Meanwhile, Wiaan Mulder produced a historic all-round showing in South Africa’s two-Test series against Zimbabwe. He was leading the team in the absence of senior players and made the most of the opportunity. He amassed 531 runs at an astounding average of 265.50 and became South Africa’s highest individual Test scorer with an unbeaten 367 in the second Test at Bulawayo. He had earlier scored 147 in the second innings of the first Test to anchor South Africa’s position. With the ball, Mulder chipped in with seven wickets at 15.28, including a four-wicket haul, underlining his value as a genuine all-rounder. His efforts earned him the Player of the Series honour.
