Pakistan is not going to give up, Farooq Abdullah tells India

Calls for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir

Monitoring Desk

SRINAGAR: National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has said that if the Constitution is to be respected, Jammu and Kashmir must be restored to statehood.

Farooq Abdullah in an interview to an Indian news agency said that about six years ago, on August 5, 2019, while abrogating Article 370, it was said that militancy would end. Has militancy now ended or has it increased? Delhi should answer this in Parliament.

Farooq Abdullah said that Jammu and Kashmir was made a Union Territory and what did they gain from it? He said that the government made promises in Parliament, while promises were also made before the Indian Supreme Court that the statehood would be restored, but the promises have not been fulfilled yet.

Farooq Abdullah lamented the lack of control of the Jammu and Kashmir government over security and administrative matters and said that the terrorist attack in Pahalgam could have been prevented if the local government had been responsible for security.

He referred to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s admission of security failure in Pahalgam and said, “I am happy that the Lieutenant Governor has admitted his failure, he should have had the courage to resign.”

Responding to a question about Pakistan, Farooq Abdullah said, “Pakistan is not going to give up, war is not the solution to any problem.”
