Rift with Gandapur: Junaid Akbar offers resignation to Imran Khan

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) President Junaid Akbar has sent a formal message to party founder Imran Khan, expressing his intent to resign from the provincial presidency.

Junaid Akbar requested of the former premier that the leadership relieve him of the responsibility and assign it to another party worker.

According to PTI sources, Junaid Akbar has been seriously considering resignation due to rising internal conflicts, particularly growing differences with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and increasing factionalism within the party’s provincial ranks.

The internal crisis has intensified following speculation around a possible vote of no-confidence in KP. The swift and unilateral decisions made by CM Gandapur are reportedly backfiring, deepening divisions within the party.

Despite a leadership huddle aimed at mending rifts, no breakthrough has been achieved in reducing intra-party tensions.

Sources confirmed that Junaid Akbar also told Imran Khan that he is ready to relinquish the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee if desired.

His message underscores the gravity of internal discontent, especially as party members have openly criticised the provincial leadership in recent parliamentary meetings.

During a recent session of the parliamentary committee at KP House, Junaid Akbar remained largely silent, while lawmakers, including Shahid Khattak, Mushtaq Ghani, Shakeel Khan, and Akifullah, vocally expressed no confidence in the provincial leadership.

The PTI legislators also raised complaints over the lack of development funds in their constituencies. Sources further revealed that Junaid Akbar was reluctant to join a joint press conference but was physically brought to the event and seated beside Ali Amin Gandapur by Sheikh Waqas Akram. NNI
