LHC bars construction of buildings in Lahore sans green standards
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court setting building construction standards has ordered that from now on no building will be built in Lahore without green building standards
The court on Friday also directed NESPAK for environmental clearance of Yellow Line project to be built on canal ordering no trees should be cut during the implementation of this project.
During hearing of the case regarding smog remediation, Justice Shahid Karim remarked that court is not against any project, but it should be built according to environmental standards. No such project should be approved, in which trees are cut, Justice Shahid Karim remarked.
Lawyer of LDA submitted a report on the inclusion of green building standards in the new building bylaws.
The lawyer submitted that a certificate from the Pakistan Green Building Council will be mandatory for the construction of buildings. LDA should apply these rules to under-construction buildings as well, Justice Shahid Karim remarked.
An attempt should be made to make the constructed buildings as per the green building standards, Justice Shahid Karim further remarked. NESPAK project manager Jamshed Janjua appeared regarding the Yellow Line project on the canal bank.
There are big trees on the canal road, do not cut them because trees are very important for the environment, have mercy on this country and the people, Court’s conversation with NESPAK officer.
The Supreme Court has declared the canal as a heritage and all the trees on the canal have been geo-tagged, no tree will be cut, Project Manager NESPAK ensured the court.
Court remarked that traffic jams on services roads are a serious issue so consult CTO and Commission in this regard.

The court adjourned the further hearing of the case till July 11. NNI
