Islamabad issues special route, diversion plan for today’s Muharram procession

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has finalized a special traffic and diversion plan for the 8th Muharram procession scheduled to take place on Friday.

According to an official of the ITP, the main procession will begin from Jamia Al-Murtaza in Sector G-9/4 and proceed through Rohtas Road, Tufail Niazi Road, Shan-ul-Haq Road in G-9/1, and the Police Quarters Service Road. It will conclude at House No. 14 near Jamia Al-Sadiq in Sector G-9/2.

During the procession, several roads will be closed to general traffic, including Rohtas Road (at the Police Quarter turn), Tufail Niazi Road (towards G-10), and Khurram Road.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (R) Syed Zeeshan Haider advised commuters to use alternative routes such as Neelum Road, 9th Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, and Srinagar Highway to avoid delays and congestion. He also suggested Margalla Road and the 7th Avenue Loop as additional alternatives.

CTO Haider emphasized the importance of avoiding illegal parking along the procession route to ensure smooth traffic flow. He urged the public to use only designated parking areas and fully cooperate with the traffic police.

The ITP will be on duty throughout the event to guide commuters and ensure the safe and orderly passage of the mourning procession. NNI
