PESHAWAR: Terror revisited the insurgency hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when a deadly explosion in the Bajaur tribal district Wednesday left senior officials of the district administration martyred. They include an Assistant Commissioner, Tehsildar and two police men and a bystander. Around a dozen people including six cops were also reported seriously injured.

“At least five persons including Assistant Commissioner Nawagai Faisal Ismail and Tehsildar Abdul Wakeel were killed in a blast targeting the officer’s vehicle in Bajaur, KP on Wednesday”. The officials of the district administration Bajaur said.

According to Deputy Commissioner Bajaur Shahid Ali Khan, the blast, believed to be carried out with the help of Improvised Explosive device, took place near the Phatak Mela area of Bajaur that also left around a dozen others seriously injured.

The incident resulted in the deaths of Assistant Commissioner Nawagai Tehsil,  Tehsildar Abdul Wakeel, two police officers, and a bystander. Additionally, 11 individuals, including five police personnel, were injured and transported to nearby medical centers for care. No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The incident highlights the persistent threat of terrorism in the tribal belt despite ongoing security operations.

District Police Officer (DPO) stated that the explosion caused significant casualties, with rescue teams swiftly reaching the scene to transfer the injured to nearby medical facilities in Bajaur. Law enforcement officials also confirmed that the blast was a targeted attack on the vehicle of the Assistant Commissioner.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Amir Kundi, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Law Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Aftab Alam Advocate, have condemned the recent bomb blast in Bajaur as a tragic and inhumane act. Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives they extended his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured in the attack.

Governor and CM KP said the terrorists were enemies of humanity who deliberately targeted unarmed civilians and the attack was part of a broader agenda aimed at destabilizing Pakistan.  They said these cowardly acts would not weaken the morale of the Pakistani people.

Gas pipeline blown up in Lakki Marwat

Terrorists on Wednesday blew up main transmission gas pipeline in Lakki Marwat district, which was supplying gas to Punjab, local police said on Wednesday.

Lakki Marwat police said that the terrorists again detonated explosives to blow up the gas pipeline near Wandah Ameer in Torwah area of Saddar police jurisdiction.

The pipeline blast suspended gas supply to Punjab, police said.

The police personnel and the gas company officials reached to the spot and the pipeline’s repair work was initiated.
