ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) stalwarts and legal experts to discuss the political situation.
According to media reports, the federal minister for law and justice, Ayaz Sadiq, Saad Rafiq and other leaders were present in the meeting.
Furthermore, former law minister Zahid Hamid and Attorney General Mansoor Usman also had a detailed meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Sources said that the PM discussed the current political situation and the ongoing case in the Supreme Court.
Earlier, the former speaker national assembly and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf senior leader Asad Qaiser confirmed that the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leaders approached PTI for talks on the election date.
As per details, Asad Qaiser said that during the meeting with the MQM-P and BAP, the government invited PTI for talks.
The Federal Minister of Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar, PML-N leaders Saad Rafique and Ayaz Sadiq approached Asad Qaiser for talks.
The ministers told Asad Qaiser that they wanted to talk so that they can decide the date and reach consensus.
Asad Qaiser said that PTI has always kept the doors open for talks but the stance on the talks should be submitted to the court as well.
He added that PTI is ready for talks within a timeframe but seriousness in talks is a primary condition.
On the other hand, it was also reported that Asad Qaiser told PTI’s senior member Asad Umar about the contact of government.
Asad Umar, reportedly, called it a good progress and said that government should tell supreme court about these talks during the proceedings.
The Supreme Court (SC) adjourned the hearing of a petition seeking simultaneous elections across Pakistan after being told that a meeting had been scheduled between the government and PTI for April 26.
The apex court had directed the coalition government and PTI to hold talks and develop a consensus on elections in the country.
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday extended greetings to the overseas Pakistanis and other Muslims across the world celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr.
In a tweet, he wished them all a “very happy and blessed” Eid. “May Allah Kareem accept our worship and forgive our sins,” the prime minister wrote. Monitoring Desk
